Council Committee Room
University of Nairobi’s environmental sustainability is on course. This is according to Registrar Administration Dr. Dismas Bulinda who heads the Central Department Environmental Sustainability Committee.
The Committee meets every quarter and in one of the meetings held on 27th June 2016 at the Council Committee Room (Main Campus) to consolidate the progress reports and access the progress made so far, it was revealed that the Central team has done well. Several environmental indicators have been achieved and targets surpassed. The indicators include; waste disposal, tree planning, energy saving devise in student’s halls of residence and more so Hall 4 which was picked as a pilot project. Other measures done at the University Health Services include; waste segregation and sensitization of 12 support staff on medical waste management. The Estates Department has implemented waste segregation at the University Fields where coded bins have been installed on the ground. More bins from the garbage service provider (Zoa Taka) have been installed at various points within the campus as an effort to ensure cleanliness and conducive environment for learning.
The members who constitute the Central Environmental Sustainability Committee are drawn from all the units under the Central Administration/College.
